Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid Silicone 12-Cup Muffin Pan, RedCustomer Review: Bakes nicely but not easy to handle or care for Summary: 3 Stars
Everything I've made in this muffin "pan" has turned out nicely; however, it has not become my favorite for two reasons. First, it's flexible material, the primary selling point, makes it very tricky to maneuver in and out of a hot oven, especially with runny batter in it. Other similar models that include a "sled" seem to be able to address this just fine. But secondly, it doesn't really clean very easily for similar reasons. As you will see, the non-stick cups wipe right off, but the surface area around the cups has a slight orange-peel like texture, and if anything gets on that part and then bakes in place, it is tough to scrub because any pressure applied to the pan makes the pan totally give. Overall I can get it clean enough to reuse, but it quickly looked worn and tired vs. the bright red it started with.
Recommend the idea for those looking for silicone ease in baking; however, pass this one up and buy the pan that comes with a sled.
I also have a silicone cake pan and a silicone bread pan, and they work okay.
Description of KitchenAid Silicone 12-Cup Muffin Pan, RedOne look at this rubbery bakeware and those uninformed about silicone will laugh at the possibility that it?s actually safe to bake in it. But safe it is and KitchenAid is just one of many bakeware manufacturers that is producing pans in this revolutionary material. Made of FDA-approved food-grade silicone, this muffin pan bakes 12 sweet potato-nut muffins just as evenly as your metal pans and at temperatures up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, this silicone pan has the benefit of being safe for the refrigerator, freezer, and microwave and can withstand sudden temperature changes from one extreme to another without buckling. The nonstick surface releases muffins easily and is safe for use with metal utensils aside from knives or serrated blades. An oversized rim makes the pan easy to lift and transfer to and from from the oven. The only noticeable difference with silicone is that the pans feel a little wobbly as you carry them filled with batter from tabletop to oven and vice versa. Placing this muffin pan on a baking sheet will offer better stability for transferring baked goods and provide a level cooking surface in the oven. For easy cleanup, this pan is dishwasher-safe and will retain its nonstick cooking surface through hundreds of dishwasher cycles. KitchenAid provides a one-year hassle-free replacement warranty plus a lifetime limited warranty on this pan. --Cristina Vaamonde
