Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KP2671XMY Professional 6-Quart Stand Mixer, Majestic YellowCustomer Review: A helping hand in the kitchen... Summary: 5 Stars
My sister and her husband have owned a KitchenAid stand mixer--325 watts--for over 20 years, and they love it. I finally bought one for myself a year and a half ago, after three months of thinking, looking, and researching. I bought the 525 watt Professional 6-Quart model...and I love it! I have mixed huge batches of meat loaf, cookie dough, and cake batter with no problems whatsoever. (I use my bread machine to make bread, but I know my KitchenAid will handle any bread dough I might mix in it. In fact, my sister has mixed/kneaded bread dough in her 325 watt model with no problems...)
The plastic bowl shield is very effective and easy to use. It has a large open spout for adding ingredients, and I use it all the time. No more wiping bits of dough and batter off the walls and counter! The mixer's "slow start" feature also helps keep dry ingredients from flying out of the bowl. The "noise" my mixer's motor makes is what I would consider normal--even quiet--for a such a powerful machine. In fact, I don't even notice nor think about the noise while I'm using it.
I tried keeping my mixer on the kitchen counter, in a spot where I could use it without having to move it--it's quite heavy--but eventually moved it to my laundry/pantry room. It is large and takes up a lot of counter space, so I decided I would rather carry it into the kitchen when I need it. I don't use it every day, and it sits on a cart where I can easily reach it. Heavy, yes, but not too heavy--good for my arms!
Besides the powerful mixing capabilities, this mixer is literally like having an extra set of hands in the kitchen! While the butter and sugar are creaming, I am measuring out the flour and other dry ingredients. While the dough or batter is being blended, I am preheating the oven, greasing the pans, cleaning up the counter, putting supplies away, etc.! And, my husband loves this mixer because he no longer has to come in from the yard or garage to help me mix that huge, stiff batch of gingerbread cookie dough!
If power and convenience aren't enough, try beauty. My mixer's color is Majestic Yellow, and it is gorgeous! I wanted a color that wasn't too bold but yet, interesting. I was very pleased to see how pretty the yellow looks with my wood cabinets and that it seems to blend well with everything in my kitchen.
In conclusion, I am delighted with my KitchenAid mixer and glad I spent the extra money to get the more powerful model. I am just a wife and mom who sometimes needs a helping hand in the kitchen!
Description of KitchenAid KP2671XMY Professional 6-Quart Stand Mixer, Majestic YellowIf you love to bake and do so often, this is the mixer of your dreams! KitchenAid's most powerful motor yet will mix double batches of cookie or bread dough thoroughly and efficiently without overheating. This heavy-duty machine will deliver many years of dependable, quiet service. With a 525-watt motor to handle bread doughs and thick cookie batters, this is KitchenAid's most powerful stand mixer, a professional-grade appliance with a heavy, rugged, all-metal construction (31.7 pounds) which prevents "counter walk" on the mixer's rubber feet. It has a 6-quart, polished stainless-steel bowl with an ergonomic handle and a two-piece pouring shield made of heavyweight plastic to provide a large chute for adding ingredients. Accompanying the mixer are a burnished flat beater, a burnished dough hook, and a big wire whip. On the front of the powerhead is a hinged cover for the hub to which KitchenAid's many mixer accessories attach. This mixer's great features abound. An electronic sensor ensures mixing action remains at the speed selected from among the 10 available--even when the going gets tough. Mixing begins softly to prevent splatters and "flour puff." With the beater moving clockwise and the shaft moving counterclockwise there's no need to rotate the bowl for the beater to reach all ingredients. The bowl-lift lever functions easily. A ventilation system cools the entire mixer to prolong motor life, and a resettable overload-protection system prevents overheating. The mixer measures 11-3/8 inches wide, 16-1/2 inches high, and 14-5/8 inches deep. KitchenAid says the first year of the mixer's lifetime warranty against defects is "hassle-free," with a replacement shipped at no cost and without question if a defect is detected. --Fred Brack
