Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KFPW760WH 700-Watt 12-Cup Food Processor, WhiteCustomer Review: $175, dough gets on the stem and Kitchenaid customer service is pretty good Summary: 4 Stars
Other reviewers for the 750 Model and America's Test Kitchen are correct: Choose the 750 over the 760. The 760 is the same machine but with a different lid. This lid is a PAIN and the machine can freeze because of the changes from the 750. After using the machine not that many times at all, it wouldn't start unless I tilted it on one end and applied pressure to one end of the feeding tube to create the necessary circumstances for the safety featured lid to activate the machine. AARGH!!!
Fortunately, I am within one year ownership and Kitchenaid helped me out. I also learned that the 750 and 760 are the same machine with different lids. Hopefully, I will not have any more problems.
No less an authority than Amy Dacyczin considers a food processor a frugal must have.
Chose the 760 for the wider feed tube than the 750 which is offered in colors. However, I now regret that decision because the tube won't let you put anything too long in which means you still have to chop and you end up with weird pieces anyway.
Yes, it's big, heavy, solid and I was initially glad I bought it. I just can't figure out why dough gets out and onto the stem. The stem is coated and is also white unlike the stem of my hand me down juicer otherwise dough would manage to get into the motor itself. I plan to grind beef with this machine since the chopper is supposed to be most similiar to hand chopping; it would be gross if the ground beef also leaked between the bowl and the blade onto the stem. It's great not having to go out when you run out of bread (it's very bad to eat too much bread though.) I use the Cuisinart website for bread recipes and I successfully steamed their French bread recipe into mantou rolls yesterday. The secret to their awesome je ne sais quois is that I dumped the remnants of an eggplant curry takeout into it not enough to be obvious but just that unwasted spice was enough for yeasty magic. I love that I have a food processor now. I would never had made bread by hand because of my bad countertop and I never would have experimented so freely but pouring ingredients through the tube instead of getting my hands into it works especially for me.
The blades I bought this for (julienne and grating cheese) are in a separate disc set that is available for sale on the [...] website for ... $[...] so this machine actually costs more than the stated price in order to do what every food processor SHOULD do.
The Kitchenaid includes a standard slice, bigger slice (argh!) and shredder (disintergrated my onions.) I really want to julienne and french fry cut my veggies! Argh!!
So far I have just ground up animal flesh and made bread dough. *Sigh*
I use this frequently. It's not gathering dust. Plus making your own bread and meat for hamburgers has really killed my jones for fast food.
I just tried the chocolate loaf cake from Nigella Feasts in the machine and it was just as easy as it looks. Using the machine to make cake batter avoiding the possibility of splatter appeals to me. The cake turned out very well.
Alton Brown's Pie Crust episodes supports getting a wide mouth 9-11 cup bottom motor base machine but he got a Cuisinart and he filled the flour all the way to the top which I cannot do with this Kitchenaid machine.
On November 25, 2006, I found that the machine would not turn on. I figured out that if I only TILTED the machine by placing my fingers in the pusher and tilting to the side would the motor activate because I was applying pressure to the side that recognized that the bowl, cover and tube were in the correct positions. If I tilted by lifting from the base or removed my hand from the tube, the machine would stop. I managed to make the burger meat and butter cookies anyway but it was very disheartening to have this happen after about 20 uses in the less than half a year that I had owned it.
