Customer Review: A real workhorse in the kitchen!

This item has been such a valuable addition to my arsenal of kitchen tools! It is so versatile with the attachments and the extra work bowls. I most often use the smallest workbowl for making bread crumbs or dips. And I love that using one of the bowl inserts doesn't necessarily mean that I have to clean the whole thing. This machine really proved itself last Thanksgiving when I made a carrot cake using the three work bowls, first chopping the nuts, then grating the carrots, then mixing the batter never having to clean a bowl until I was done. Plus the recipe booklet has a great recipe for parmesan biscuits that my family also loved. This is a relatively quiet machine compared to others I've used, but it also doesn't seem to spin as fast I would have expected even though it always gets the job done eventually.
BTW, I too had a problem with the slicing disk when shredding cabbage for coleslaw. I'm not sure if I pushed down too hard or the bowl got too full, but the slicing disk ended up slicing into the plastic cover and causing the motor to seize. I couldn't open or clean the unit. But Kitchen Aid--maybe because the problem has happened before--made replacing the unit a breeze. I now do not push down so hard when slicing or shredding and I open the cover to make sure the food is distributed around the work bowl and no problems. Having to replace the unit because of this problem kept me from rating the processor at 5 stars, but Kitchen Aid's superior customer service when handling this problem still left me with an overall positive impression.
