Bought this for making sausage a year or so ago. It does, indeed grind stuff, but I think I will soon be replacing it with a dedicated grinder.
When making sausage, you work with frozen meat, I put 5 lbs of frozen, cubed pork shoulder through this thing this morning and could smell the motor getting warm. It may not have been an issue, but it concerned me enough that I shut the unit off for a while and let it cool down.
The hopper could really stand to be bigger - it's VERY easy to slop stuff over the sides when pushing things into the chute.
I will save all my venom for the pusher tool: This complete piece of junk was obviously designed by someone who never actually used it. When you try to use this thing to push ground meat into sausage casings, not only does the meat squoosh out and around the head of the pusher, but it also clings to the sides of it, so that when you pull the pusher out, you pull the damned meat out with it and you have to bang the pusher on the sides of the hopper to get it off. Annoying to the point of being almost unusable for sausage making. Yes, you can make your own, that works better, but that's not the point, is it?
In short, the Kitchen Aid is a kick-ass MIXER, but only an adequate grinder.
